Children & Technology
With the constant distractions and psychological pain caused by technology on adolescent minds, my partner, Madeline Mays and I worked on an interactive story to help redirect and correct the developmental issues that stem from it.
-
During our research, we found that children are struggling with connecting with others when a screen is on
-
With the growing interest of social media in younger teen audiences, there is an increase in exposure to inappropriate content
-
In general, we saw and heard stories about students who don’t interact with strangers or adults and need practice with problem solving, so by placing those students in a story where they have to problem solve with an unknown adult, we can help give the students that practice
Interviews
I spent some time with teachers from Shaw Elementary in Beavercreek, Ohio, to learn more about some of the struggles in the classroom and where they stem from.

Story & Layout
After our research, we came to the conclusion to make a 1930’s film noir inspired story. I referenced ride, escape room, and haunted house floor plans to create a layout that could be mirrored and duplicated to fit multiple experiences at once.
Final Layout
The Final layout includes textures and some contents of the rooms in the story. We focused heavily on the office setting and puzzles due to our limited time on the project.
Set Back
At this point in the project, I had to get shoulder surgery and continued the project with only one arm usable. I even presented the final with one arm.
Getting Into Puzzles
We settled on using a cryptex and a Ledger as our main puzzle pieces leading to a secret door and letter that will help give away the final answers
Modeling
I modeled and rendered (3D and Sketched) the puzzles. I also tested the use of AI rendering with the monkey statue puzzle pieces
